Pain - who cares?
We do!
Here's why...
The BPS is the oldest Pain Society in the UK, bringing together clinicians, academics, patients and carers to explore the complexity of pain and to help manage it better. We're passionate about putting people in touch with the very best support and advice so that they can help themselves make informed decisions about their treatment, learn about their pain and get better at managing it themselves. To this end, we've put together a list of resources we know will help.
HERE'S HOW…
… FOR PATIENTS
The BPS has produced its own expert guides for patients, dealing with:
• Understanding Pain: what pain is, what it isn’t, how it works, how it doesn’t
• Management of Pain: what kind of medical help and support is available
• Self- Management by Patients: what people in pain can do to help themselves
You can download the leaflets here, view specific patient organisations here, and join the Lived Experience Collective a group of like-minded people here.
… FOR CARERS
A great place to start is the Live Well With Pain website.
You'll find advice and support as well as helpful links to help you apply for things like Carer's Assessment and Carer's Allowance. There's a link to local support groups, too - take a look: there might be one near you?
