We very much welcome the new research published today highlighting the level of problematic opioid use for chronic non-cancer pain given the lack of evidence of long-term benefit. We share concerns at the level of prescribing of these medicines for long-term pain and welcome both research (I-WOTCH and PROMPPT) into this area as well UK government policy support to ensure prescribing is appropriate and de-prescribing is done safely.
