New National Clinical Lead for Persistent Pain in Wales announced

22nd Apr 2025

The British Pain Society is delighted to congratulate Emma Davies on her appointment as National Clinical Lead for Persistent Pain in Wales, from April 2025.

Emma has been a longstanding member of BPS and a dedicated advocate for improving pain care in Wales. From co-authoring the Analgesic Stewardship Guidance to co-leading the Live Well with Pain initiative, she has consistently worked to support both clinicians and people living with persistent pain. We know the future of pain management in Wales is in excellent hands.

We would also like to sincerely thank Owen Hughes, who has held this role with great integrity and vision. Owen has worked closely with BPS and others to lay strong foundations for a more joined-up, person-centred approach to pain care. His commitment to collaboration, quality, and innovation has made a lasting impact.  We are grateful for his leadership and hope to continue working with him.

“We’ve been privileged to work alongside Owen and look forward to continuing this collaborative relationship with Emma. Her appointment comes at an exciting time, with the 2025 BPS Annual Scientific Meeting taking place in Wales — a key opportunity to showcase innovation, build partnerships, and champion better pain care across the UK.”
— Professor Roger Knaggs, President of the British Pain Society

The BPS is pleased to support this important leadership transition and to continue working alongside both Emma and colleagues across Wales. We are committed to strengthening these partnerships and supporting national efforts that improve the lives of people living with persistent pain — including through this year’s ASM in Wales, which will be a key opportunity for shared learning and collaboration.
