What is pain and how do we talk about it? Webinar - 20th September 2021
20th Sep 2021
The Philosophy & Ethics SIG of The British Pain Society are hosting a webinar on 20th September 2021 at 7.30pm, with guest speaker Betsan Corkill.
Betsan will take a dive into the important and complex topic of how we talk to people about pain. To do this we need to help people to understand how pain works and avoid giving the wrong messages about it. For example the term ‘pain signals’ conveys an incomplete understanding of pain mechanisms and the fact that pain and nociception are different.
The language we use affects the expectations of those who seek our help, and may in itself prolong pain. A poor choice of language can immobilise people and destroy hope. So it’s time to talk about how we talk about pain.
Members and non-members of the BPS are cordially invited to attend this session.
